Elisabethen Church
|
|
he Elisabethen church used to be a small chapel, which was replaced by a parish church in
1515. After some time, considerable treasures enriched the church.
In the ancient Basel, people were often talking about this church, which had gradfully
become a bit dilapidated. Christoph Merian promised to found a new one and decided in
favour of Ferdinand Stadler's design (an architect from Zürich). The new Gothic church, having three
naves, was then constructed by Christoph Riggenbach and inaugurated in 1854.
Nowadays, above all cultural activities and even discos take place in the church.
