t regular intervals, the Lällekönig (Lälli=tongue, König=king) sticks out his tongue at Kleinbasel (smaller Basel).
It was probably constructed in 1639 and originally attached to the Rhine gate, which today no longer exists. It worked
with the help of tge clockwork in the gate. Later, it became it's own mechanism.
