In contrast to this, Tuesday evening belongs only to "Guggen" music (=funny variations of popular songs played by brass instruments). The "Guggen" concert takes place on the Barfüsserplatz and the Markplatz. Around 7 p.m., the "Guggen" groups from Kleinbasel walk through Clarastrasse in the direction of the Marktplatz. Then they give a concert on the Marktplatz and the Barfüsserplatz. Every group plays more or less 15 minutes each without a long break in between. The concert lasts from 8 p.m. to about 10:30 p.m. After that, they go on playing in the streets until early in the morning. It is a must for every visitor of carnival in Basel.
