arnival is quite an expensive event. The making of the masks and costumes already costs a lot of money. The "Waggis" (=typical figure of carnival in Basel) on the wagons distribute mimosas (yellow flowers), oranges, sweets and a lot more to the visitors on the pavements for more than thousand Swiss franks.

The committee reimburses the active carnival members and their clubs, who follow the conditions. The money derives partly from carnival badges that have been sold.
Moreover, the committee organises the "Cortège" (=procession), as well as the exhibition of the lanterns and the drum concert.
